FG Would Embrace Technology In Solving Problems — Onu

MINISTER of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has said that the Federal Government is committed to applying technology to fight corruption, wealth creation, poverty reduction and promotion of self-reliance.

Onu said this in Lagos, at the graduation ceremony of entrepreneurs from the Technology Incubation Centre, Agege, a training facility under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.

He noted that Nigeria was in need of a new beginning, and hope that we can rebuild our economy. He added that there would be efforts to create jobs to recreate and strengthen the middle class, which is the engine for social and economic growth.

He commended the leadership of the centre for their relentless pursuit of excellence and the realisation of the vision for which the facility was established.

According to him, “We need to rebuild those institutions that will pave way for the emergence of a new Nigeria, and strengthen the acquisition and application of technology as an important instrument for
national development.

Indeed, we need to place greater emphasis on science, engineering, technology and innovation to enable us achieve self reliance, national pride and global acclaim.”

He urged the graduands to utilise their training to develop the necessary capacity to become employers of labour, noting, “This will help expand our small and medium scale enterprises and subsequently boost local production for the overall benefit of our beloved country. This will also help create jobs for many and reduce poverty for the common good.”
