Fintiri approves ₦70,000 minimum wage for state workers

Governor Fintiri

Adamawa State Governor, Umaru Fintiri, has approved paying the ₦70,000 national minimum wage to state and local government workers starting in August and September 2024, respectively.

This was announced by Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) State Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, after a meeting with the governor on Tuesday.

Fashe revealed that the state government workers will start receiving their salaries with the new minimum wage from August 2024, while their counterparts at the local government level will benefit from September.

He explained that the template to be used is the consequential adjustment table that was used in 2019, pending the release of the table from the National Salaries, Wages and Income Commission.

“Whatever the worker was getting as present national minimum wage of N32,000 as it applies to Adamawa State, that same will be applied in terms of percentages in implementation of the new minimum wage, ” Fashe said.

According to Fashe, Governor Fintiri is committed to worker welfare, which is why the new minimum wage was implemented even before the national salaries, wages, and income commission’s table was released.
