Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has officially presented the staff of office to His Royal Highness, Alhaji Sani Ribadu, as the first Emir of Fufore.
The ceremony, held at the Atiku Abubakar Stadium in Fufore Local Government Area (LGA) on February 5, 2025, was attended by dignitaries, government officials, and members of the public.
During his speech, Fintiri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions, fostering unity, and ensuring effective governance across the state.
He stressed that the creation of new Emirates and Chiefdoms was aimed at resolving conflicts, promoting arbitration, and bringing justice closer to the people.
“We are embarking on a journey that would foster unity, bind our people together, and create the right reach for governance in areas where it has been seemingly difficult to reach,” the governor stated.
“The creation of Emirates and Chiefdoms is not just a political decision but a strategic move to enhance governance and ensure the traditional institution remains a vital part of our democratic system.”
The governor also highlighted the significance of the newly enacted Adamawa State Chiefs (Appointment and Deposition) Law 2024, which seeks to reposition the traditional institution for maximum effectiveness.
He noted that the law provides a clear framework for succession and ensures that only qualified natives ascend to traditional thrones, thus eliminating external impositions that have previously led to discontent among communities.
Addressing the people of Fufore, Governor Fintiri congratulated them on achieving their long-standing demand for an Emirate and urged them to support their new Emir in building a strong and respected institution.
“The onus is on you to nurture, sustain, and revere this Emirate. It is your responsibility to ensure its growth and stability,” he urged.
Turning to the newly installed Emir, Governor Fintiri charged Alhaji Sani Ahmadu Ribadu with the responsibility of providing strong leadership, ensuring justice, and promoting peace and development within the Emirate.
“You must be available, just, and fair, resolving conflicts and arbitrating disputes among your people. You must be a unifying force and lead in strengthening social cohesion,” he advised.
The governor also called on the Emir to support local intelligence gathering to aid security efforts and work closely with other traditional leaders in providing advisory roles for the overall development of the state.
He assured the people of Adamawa that his administration remains committed to fulfilling its promises and setting the state on a trajectory of sustained development, noting that the foundation laid for traditional leadership reforms would shape the future of governance in the state.
With the formal presentation of the Staff of Office, Alhaji Sani Ribadu officially assumes his role as the Emir of Fufore, ushering in a new era for the people of the Emirate.
The event was marked by cultural displays, traditional performances, and an outpouring of goodwill from the people of Fufore and beyond, symbolising renewed hope for the future of the Emirate.
