Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, yesterday, shocked the state’s chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) by his refusal to sign into law the media bill passed recently by the Adamawa State House of Assembly.

While hosting members of the Correspondent Chapel in Government House, the governor said the bill was not only anti-youth, but that, if signed into law, it would affect the productivity of the media industry in the state.

“The media bill is asking for 70 years as retirement age for media workers. Every year, universities churn out thousands of graduates. Where do you expect them to work, when you keep one person in office till the age of 70 years? I can’t sign a bill that affects the growth of youths,” he stated.

Fintiri, who assured journalists working in a state of safety, pointed out that his administration would not relent in its efforts to improve the living conditions of media workers.

He appealed to journalists to report facts and be fair to all parties, as they would be judged in future based on their work.

The governor told the journalists that their constructive criticism would help him to improve in governance.
