Fire guts 14 buildings in Dosunmu Market
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said a total of 14 buildings were affected in the inferno that occurred at the Dosunmu Market on Tuesday.
LSFRS Director, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed this in a statement after firefighters successfully contained the major fire incident which saw two structures fully collapse and two partially collapse.
“The cause was traced to refuelling a generator among others, with fuel storage in kegs at the penthouse of a three-building complex housing a printing shop with chemical contents,” Adeseye said.
“Swift firefighting operations by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service which has now moved to damping down strategy, mitigating all threats and ensuring public safety.”
Adeseye added that the enumeration of shops and goods lost are ongoing, and preventive measures will be enforced.
According to her, all the state’s emergency responders including that of the national and private partners are collaborating at the scene.
The LSFRS boss also urged the public to handle combustible materials with caution to prevent future incidents.
The fire incident that occurred at the popular Dosunmu Market in Lagos had earlier been made known in a video posted by an X user simply identified as Adunni.
Adunni in the post also said the fire was caused by an explosion from a generator, a report that was later corroborated by LSFRS director, Adeseye.
