In a sustained effort to honour the courage and resilience of young Nigerians, Dufil Prima Foods Plc, makers of Indomie Instant Noodles, has officially unveiled the 17th edition of its yearly Indomie Heroes Award, a flagship corporate social responsibility initiative dedicated to celebrating heroic children across the country.
The award is set to recognise children aged 15 and under for their outstanding acts of bravery in the face of adversity.
With this year’s theme titled “Unsung Heroes,” the initiative seeks to discover and spotlight inspiring stories of heroism that often go unnoticed, especially from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
At a press conference in Lagos, the Group Corporate Communications and Events Manager at Dufil Prima Foods, Mr. Temitope Ashiwaju, described the platform as a tribute to the indomitable spirit of Nigerian children who display extraordinary courage through physical, social, or intellectual feats.
“Our commitment to spotlighting the heroic acts of Nigerian children remains unwavering. Since the inception of the Indomie Heroes Award in 2008, we have aimed to recognise children who show uncommon bravery, risking their own safety, challenging societal norms, or solving real-life problems using their intellect,” he said.
He noted that the awards process follows a three-phase model: a nationwide call for entries through digital and on-ground channels, followed by a rigorous screening and verification process by a panel of credible judges, and culminating in a grand recognition ceremony scheduled for October 2025 in Lagos.
The awards, he said, are divided into three key categories: Physical Bravery, which honours children who put themselves in harm’s way to protect or save others; Social Bravery – recognises those who have challenged societal issues such as child marriage, illiteracy, or environmental degradation and Intellectual Bravery, which celebrates innovative thinking and problem-solving skills in real-life situations.
“This year’s edition introduces a new layer of recognition, state-level awards for runners-up across all categories—broadening the scope of acknowledgment for young heroes across Nigeria,” Ashiwaju said.
He also urged the public to participate in the nomination process, calling on parents, teachers, guardians, and community leaders to share stories of bravery by children within their communities.
“We are casting the net wider this year to ensure that more deserving children are recognised. By starting the shortlisting process early, we hope to capture powerful stories from even the most remote areas,” he stated.
Ashiwaju added that winners of the 2025 Indomie Heroes Award will receive enhanced grand prizes and educational support packages, noting that the initiative has honoured 59 children and awarded millions of naira in scholarships, empowering past recipients to pursue education and leadership roles that continue to inspire change.
