First Lady seeks protection for schools, disburses N47m, laptops

The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called for collective efforts to protect education and safeguard schools across the country, describing it as essential to securing Nigeria’s future.

Tinubu, an educator and former teacher, made the call yesterday in her message commemorating the 2025 International Day to Protect Education from Attack.

This year’s observance has the theme: “Challenging Narratives, Reshaping Action.”

According to Tinubu, the theme is a clarion call to move beyond rhetoric and take bold, decisive steps to ensure the safety of learners, teachers, and educational institutions nationwide.

“The theme calls us to move beyond words and take stronger action to safeguard education,” she said.

She emphasised that education must never be compromised, adding that a society that failed to protect its schools risked undermining its own future.

While commending the effort of the security agencies, the first lady, however, implored them to do more in protecting the schools.

“In Nigeria, our security agencies are doing their best, but protecting schools must remain a shared national priority.”

She disbursed N47 million and laptops to 47 beneficiaries of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) scholarship scheme, reaffirming her commitment to education and youth empowerment across Nigeria.

Each recipient, drawn from tertiary institutions nationwide, received N1 million and a brand-new laptop to support their studies.

The beneficiaries cut across various disciplines, medicine, law, engineering, education, sciences, and the humanities, with five in 400 level, 39 in 300 level, two in 200 level, and one in ND II.
