Five-month-old baby seeks N7million for open heart surgery
Baby Abraham Bright Adewumi has been diagnosed with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), a hole in the wall between the heart’s two upper chambers.
ASD is a congenital condition, which means it is present at birth.
This has made him to be reducing in size and weight since birth, at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
According to a report made available to The Guardian, and signed by medical doctors, Yinka Otetubi, Jide Adeyefa, Bamigboye-Taiwo as well as Prof. John Okeniyi (Consultant Paediatric cardiologists), at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, the diagnosis indicates Ostium secundum atrial septal defect and Inlet ventricular septal defect.
Their findings include: multi-chamber cardiomegaly; Ostium secundum atrial septal defect; large-sized inlet ventricular septal defect and dilated pulmonary arteries.
Hence, their recommendations are parental counselling, paediatric cardiology follow-up and open heart surgical repairs, if and when feasible.
The referral doctor, Dr. M. Joel of Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, indicated that the baby needs urgent surgical intervention for hole in the heart.
Following the doctors’ recommendations, doctors at Fortis Health Care, Okhla Road, India, have agreed on two surgery plans to cover the holes. The first surgery will cost N7 million, which includes; travelling, drugs and other medical expenses.
To save the boy’s life through the proposed medical surgery, the parents are soliciting for intervention through donations.
Donations could be made to Abraham’s father’s bank account. Name : Adewumi Gbenga Jacob: Bank: GTbank: Number: 0049410049. He can also be reached through his mobile telephone number 08035259086.
