The Franco-Nigerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has urged the Federal Government to channel the savings generated from fuel subsidy removal into critical infrastructure, particularly electricity and road networks, to ease pressure on businesses and unlock Nigeria’s industrial potential.
The Chamber, in a statement, commended the government’s ongoing reforms for bringing greater clarity, simplification and predictability to the business environment, noting that the improved policy direction has helped sustain French business commitments and strengthen bilateral trade cooperation.
However, the FNCCI stressed that policy clarity alone would not deliver the desired economic transformation without the political will and disciplined implementation needed to translate macroeconomic gains into tangible benefits for businesses and households.
According to the Chamber, while the removal of the fuel subsidy has freed up trillions of naira in government revenue, businesses continue to face significant operational pressures because key structural challenges remain unresolved.
It identified inadequate power supply and poor road infrastructure as two of the most pressing constraints confronting businesses in Nigeria, warning that these challenges continue to undermine competitiveness, raise operating costs and limit industrial growth.
The FNCCI therefore called on the government to deploy a significant portion of the resources saved through the reforms towards upgrading electricity infrastructure and rehabilitating transport networks across the country.
The Chamber also urged the government to sustain the reform momentum while strengthening implementation, stressing that infrastructure deficits must be addressed through a combination of sustained public investment and effective public-private partnerships.
