THE principal rules and figures concerning the English Premier League domestic television rights deal for the period 2016-2019:

– Television rights for the 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons

– 168 live matches per season (504 in total)

– Seven match packages

– No one channel can obtain five packages and 75 percent (126 matches) of the matches on offer

– Up to 10 matches per season to be broadcast on Friday nights for the first time in the history of the Premier League (and a minimum of 18 on Monday nights)

– No 1500 GMT Saturday afternoon matches to be broadcast live

Evolution of Premier League TV rights since the English top flight was rebranded in 1992:

1992-1997: 60 matches per season broadcast live by Sky (300 in total) for total fee of £191 million ($290.6 million, 257.6 million euros; £640,000 per game)

1997-2001: 60 matches per season broadcast live by Sky (240 in total) for total fee of £670 million (£2.79 million per match)

2001-2004: 110 matches per season broadcast live by Sky (330 in total) for total fee of £1.2 billion (£3.64 million per match)

2004-2007: 138 matches per season broadcast live by Sky (414 in total) for total fee of £1.024 billion (£2.47 million per match)

2007-2010: 138 matches per season broadcast live by Sky and Setanta (414 in total) for total fee of £1.706 billion (£4.12 million per match)

2010-2013: 138 matches per season broadcast live by Sky and ESPN (414 in total) for total fee of £1.773 billion (£4.28 million per match)

2013-2016: 154 matches per season broadcast live by Sky and BT (462 in total) for total fee of £3.018 billion (£6.53 million per match)
