Former Edo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Solomon Aiya Aguele, JP, has died. He passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025, at the age of 88.
A statement issued by the Aguele family announced that the elder statesman died at a hospital in Abuja.
“The Prince Solomon Aiya Aguele, JP, regrets to announce his passing in the early hours of Monday, 18th August 2025, at the age of 88 years at an Abuja hospital,” the statement read.
The family added: “The family expressed deep gratitude to all who offered words of comfort and support during this difficult time. Details of the burial arrangements will be announced in due course.”
Aguele was a founding member of the PDP and the pioneer chairman of the party in Edo State from 1998 to 2008. He was also a key pillar of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) during the Second Republic, from 1979 to 1983.
He served the nation in various capacities, including as chairman of the Nigeria Gas Company (NGC) from 2005 to 2007 and chairman of the Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority from 2009 to 2012.
Prince Aguele was widely regarded as a respected political leader, a loyal party man, a committed community leader, and above all, a devoted family man whose legacy of service and sacrifice will continue to inspire generations.
