disburses yearly ₦12m in Ramadan relief across Osun
As the 2026 Ramadan season draws to a close, the Tunjii Salami Foundation has delivered a far-reaching intervention in Osun State, providing relief materials and financial support worth nearly ₦12 million to vulnerable households.
The initiative, which cut across several local government areas, blended humanitarian assistance with economic empowerment—targeting both immediate needs and long-term resilience.
At multiple distribution centres, scenes of appreciation and renewed hope played out as beneficiaries received support under the foundation’s structured outreach programme.
To cushion the impact of rising food costs during the festive period, the foundation prioritised the distribution of essential food items to widows and elderly residents—groups disproportionately affected by inflation. Beneficiaries received packages containing rice, beans, semovita, vegetable oil, and other staple items to sustain their households through the Eid celebrations and beyond.
Speaking during the final phase of the exercise in Osogbo, the foundation’s Communications Director, Mr. Maroof Olawale Salami, said the intervention reflects the core Islamic values of compassion, justice, and social responsibility.
In a significant push toward sustainable livelihoods, the foundation also implemented its 2026 Zakat Empowerment Scheme, aimed at fostering economic independence.
Through the scheme, 20 carefully selected beneficiaries were awarded seed capital to start or expand small businesses. The financial support, drawn from the foundation’s Zakat fund, is designed to transition recipients from dependency to self-reliance, enabling them to generate income and contribute to their local economies.
Maroof explained that the timing of the initiative during Ramadan was intentional, aligning with the season’s emphasis on generosity, reflection, and support for the less privileged.
“This is not just about giving; it is about empowering people to rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose,” he said.
Reaffirming its long-term commitment, the foundation stressed that sustained investment in empowerment initiatives remains essential to reducing poverty and strengthening communities across Osun State. Nigerian football, despite the country’s track record of producing world-class talents.
“It is our collective responsibility as stakeholders to protect and strengthen that reputation. By investing in education and safeguarding, we can ensure Nigerian players excel not only on the pitch but also uphold the values expected of ambassadors of our great nation,” he added.
