About 3,000 families have benefitted from Aunt Landa’ Bethel Foundation food outreach, tagged Aunt Landa’s Market Square, an initiative that has brought joy to many widows, orphans, and other vulnerable persons in society.

The market square, held in partnership with ace comedian, Ali Baba, witnessed a large turnout of people, especially widows from across Lagos State. Convener of the event and founder of the organization, Dr. Yolanda George-David, disclosed that scholarships would be given to the widows’ children for one term, in addition to the existing ones catered for by the foundation

Addressing the participants, Ali Baba, who formally opened the market square and lightened their faces with rib-cracking jokes, handed out customized five-dollar bills to participants that was used to shop and pick anything they wanted.

Apart from the shopping, participants were also treated to free medical consultation and treatment for malaria, hypertension, typhoid, etc.

Other notable persons, who volunteered for the project include MC Abbey, a comedian; Lepacious Bose, a comedienne, Tuale, an On Air Personality (OAP) with Wazobia FM, and family and friends of the founder.

Kingsley David, an elated Estate Management student at the University of Lagos, said he heard about the event on ‘Ali Baba Seriously’, a weekly radio programme on Nigeria Info, and he attended because he wanted a scholarship to pursue his education.

A young widow and mother of twins, who came to the event from Epe, said she lost her husband in an accident three years ago. “Since then, I have been managing with the children with less support from family members. I appreciate the foundation for bringing smiles to my face during this hard time. I am going home with free medication for my children, foodstuff, and children clothing.”
