The Fredrick Isiotan Fasehun Foundation (FIFF), yesterday, held its fifth-year remembrance in honour of its founder, mentor and father, the late Dr. Frederick Isiotan Fasehun, who died on December 1, 2018, exactly five years ago.
Fasehun, a medical doctor and activist, was one of the pioneer members of National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), a human rights group that fought the then military government for the restoration of the democracy in Nigeria.
According to a statement signed by its Executive Director, Oluremi Fasehun: “It is on record, the number of arrests, harassment and detentions in the most inhumane conditions, he suffered and endured for the enthronement of our democracy.
“Like the man who saw tomorrow, he sacrificed his comfort, shouted it loud on rooftop that we only have one Nigeria to call our own, so it is our duty, yes, yours and mine to make it count, make it work. All in all, till his last breath bidding Nigeria farewell, Dr. Frederick Isiotan Fasehun’s love for country never waned.
“As the Founder of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), a socio-cultural platform formed for the emancipation, the fight for freedom from oppression and the need for expression in our nation state made a laudable impart on the Yoruba race and Nigerians worldwide.
“The foundation uses this solemn remembrance to congratulate the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on his recent victory at the Supreme Court, affirming his success at the presidential election.
“The FIFF urges Nigerians to sheath their swords, strive for the unity of state and with oneness of mind and will, support the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as he navigates the Nigeria ship through the stormy economic weather, turbulent waters of insecurity, inflation, unemployment, multi-dimensional poverty and corruption all of which has bedeviled the fabric of our once upon a time cohesion.”
