A non-governmental organisation, Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, has begun training of 100 youths and women in vocational and entrepreneurship education in Jigawa.
Malam Bashir Abbo, the Senior Programme Officer of the foundation, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Tuesday that the training will run from October 12 – 30 2015.
Abbo said the programme was part of the foundation’s intervention designed to develop the capacities of women and youths in entrepreneurship and productive skills in various trades.
He said the training was also to create jobs and encourage self-reliance among youths and women in the 19 northern states.
Abbo described entrepreneurs as very critical to the prosperity and economic well being of the nation.
According to him, the participants are nominated by the state government and drawn from the 27 local councils of the state.
Abbo said that the foundation was an organisation established in honour of the late Northern Premier, Alhaji Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto.
He further said the foundation was established in 2009 by friends, associates and well-wishers of the late premier to promote his exemplary ideals and leadership.
The official added that the foundation was also created to help translate such belief into reality among women and youths of the northern region for the common good of the nation.
According to him, the foundation’s interests covers health, agriculture, education, entrepreneurship, leadership and good governance as well as conflict management and peace promotion.
