Foundation urges community to take ownership of solar water

The National President of Hub Foundation, Barrister Gebon Timothy Kataps, has called on community leaders to take full ownership of a motorized solar powered water project constructed by the Foundation in Jalibgo, Taraba State.

Kataps made the appeal on weekend, during the commissioning of the project, emphasizing the importance of community participation in ensuring its sustainability.

He noted that while the Foundation is committed to improving access to clean water in underserved areas, the long term success of such interventions depends largely on how well host communities manage and maintain the facilities.

According to him, the project was initiated to address the persistent challenge of inadequate access to potable water in Jalibgo and its surrounding communities. He urged local leaders to mobilize residents to protect the infrastructure from vandalism and misuse, stressing that a sense of collective responsibility would guarantee its durability.

Kataps further encouraged the community to establish a local management committee that would oversee the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the water system. He added that the Foundation would continue to provide guidance where necessary but would rely on the community’s cooperation to ensure the project serves its intended purpose for years to come.

While commissioning the project, the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Kizito Bonzena, commended the foundation for the initiative and urged other organizations to emulate the gesture.

Also on his part, the state Chairman of the Foundation and Taraba State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Mike Dio Jen, said the project was executed to provide the community with access to clean and safe water.

Community representatives who spoke at the event expressed appreciation to the Hub Foundation for the intervention, describing the project as timely and impactful. They pledged to safeguard the facility and ensure it benefits all residents.

The motorized solar powered water project, as gathered by The Guardian, is part of the Foundation’s broader efforts to promote sustainable development and improve living conditions in rural communities across Nigeria.
