An official of the National Emergency Management Committee (NEMA), in the state, Quintos Oramalu, who confirmed the incident to The Guardian, said NEMA had given warning to residents in the affected areas to relocate to safer zones.
The Guardian learnt that the disaster, which ravaged Umuahiata, Umuneke, Akri, Ndogbua, Umunkwo, among other communities, was caused by the recent release of excess water from the Lagdo Dam by Camerounian authorities.
It was also learnt that the flood destroyed many fishponds and farms, where the locals grow cassava.
Oramalu said an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp has been constructed to cater for the victims of flooding in the state, adding: “Those, who are yet to be affected should relocate. And victims should move and leave anything they have there.”
