Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has handed over the AgustaWestland AW139 Helicopter to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to support national security operations, enhance aerial surveillance, and improve emergency response.

The handover took place at the 115 Special Operations Group of the Nigerian Air Force Base in Rumuomasi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. Governor Fubara said the move aligns with efforts to protect national economic assets and improve crude oil production.

“As part of our responsibility, we are required to provide logistical support for security agencies, including the Air Force, Army, Navy, Police, and DSS,” he said. “This helicopter had been out of operation due to a dispute with the contractor managing it. When the Air Force expressed interest in using it for security operations, we agreed.”

Fubara emphasized that the decision reflects the state’s commitment to national security and economic stability.

Receiving the helicopter, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, described the handover as a positive step for national security. “The AW139 Helicopter will enhance our capacity in tactical airlift, search and rescue, and disaster relief efforts,” he said.

The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, signed the handover document on behalf of Rivers State, while Air Commodore Haliru Badamasi signed for the Nigerian Air Force.
