Governor Siminalayi Fubara has requested the screening and confirmation of nine commissioner-nominees for appointment into the State Executive Council.
The request, which was read on the floor of the House by the Speaker, was made in line with Section 192 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
Meanwhile, the Minority Leader of the Imo State House of Assembly, Princewill Amuchie, and his deputy, Clinton Amadi, have resigned their positions in the Assembly after defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Before their resignations and defection yesterday, Amuchie, representing Aboh Mbaise Constituency, was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Amadi, representing Owerri Municipal, was elected on the platform of the Labour Party (LP).
They were subsequently appointed minority and deputy minority leaders, respectively.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Chike Olemgbe, who read their resignation letters and defection notifications during plenary yesterday, cited the developmental strides achieved by the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, as the key reason for their decision to join the ruling party.
With the development, the APC, the ruling party in the state, now holds all the Assembly seats.
