Fund unveils literary contest on healthier Nigeria for youths
In furtherance of its mission to transform healthcare outcomes in the country, Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund (NSSF) has launched a WeNaija literary contest.
Titled ‘Righting our Story’, the initiative seeks to tell, through written content, the vision of a healthier Nigeria. This would be expressed either as poetry, short stories, non-fiction prose or flash fiction.
NSSF General Manager, Dr. Fejiro Chinye-Nwoko, said the campaign would afford youths to be a part of something inspirational with widespread impact, while at the same, providing an avenue for empowering and upskilling the young Nigerians.
She explained that the programme would see to capacity building of youths in digital tools and applications for writing, editing, publishing, promotion and skill marketing. The expected outcome is increased opportunities for global employment via the Internet.
On what the project represents, Chinye-Nwoko clarified that the initiative was providing a veritable platform for Nigerian youths to express their creativity through the literature on how to achieve a healthier Nigeria through poverty alleviation in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), zero hunger, good health, healthcare system strengthening, reskilling of the workforce in respect of enthroning decent work and economic growth.
“As participants, they stand the chance to showcase their work at a premium book launch and win cash prizes, mentorship sessions with industry masters and internship positions,” she said.
The contest is open to all youths with creative abilities that suit the theme of the programme.
Like all literature competitions, NSSF, through this particular initiative seeks to precipitate and renew interest in the subject.
It would recognise and celebrate the best creatives, based on skill sets and talents, judged solely based on interpretation of the given theme.
The platform would equally give creatives the exposure they need to progress in life, as their submissions would be widely publicised on both online and offline platforms.
Participation is free and easy. Participants are to register on the website https://nigeriasolidarityfund.ng/literary-contest/ and submitted entries between now and 11:59 p.m. of December 26, 2022.
The top 50 finalists get to win cash prizes of N50,000 each and have their works showcased at the premium book launch that would hold in Lagos next January.
The panel of judges will be on hand to select the finalists with the most unique works.
The 50 lucky youths are to win additional prizes such as getting employed in paid internship programmes and earning personalised mentorship and capacity-building sessions with select industry leaders.
Chinye-Nwoko, therefore, called on youths and groups with an interest in creative writing to take advantage of the campaign to get their names and work out to the crème de la crème of society.
Funds generated through the competition and other activities will be used to upskill Nigerian youths and provide a platform for them to thrive.
