The management of the newly established FUTA Teaching Hospital, Akure, has reiterated its plan to transform the medical facility into a functional world-class institution.

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the institution, Prof. Olusegun OjoFG appoints Prof. Olusegun Ojo as pioneer CMD of FUTA Teaching Hospital, vowed to fully implement the Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Government and the Ondo State Government in order to ensure the institution evolves into a full-fledged teaching hospital in every respect.

In a statement issued by the public relations officer of the institution, Tope Fayehun, the CMD urged the public against falling prey to misinformation that could undermine the transition process.

The development comes as the hospital commences the mandatory biometric capture of its inherited staff under the federal government’s Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), a step toward full integration into the federal civil service structure.

While speaking on the concerns of members of staff yet to be captured during the IPPIS exercise, Prof. Ojo assured all affected persons that appropriate steps were being taken to ensure redress within relevant government procedures.

The CMD emphasized that the management is laying a solid foundation by strengthening institutional systems, improving infrastructure, developing qualified personnel, fostering academic collaborations, and establishing structures that will ensure sustainable growth and excellence in healthcare delivery, teaching, and research.

He noted that every policy, program, and investment is being guided by the commitment and by the determination to create an institution that will stand the test of time.

The chief medical director acknowledged that planning and developing a teaching hospital is a huge and demanding undertaking that requires sacrifice, expertise, strategic planning, and sustained investment.

The statement read in parts, “The management of the Futa Teaching Hospital, Akure, extends her profound appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for having approved the establishment of the institution, and to the governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his unwavering commitment and support toward making this historic achievement a reality.

“The management also expresses her heartfelt gratitude to the Deji of Akure Land, Oba (Dr.) Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, and other traditional rulers; community leaders; lawmakers; development partners; healthcare professionals; civil society organizations; the media; and the good people of Ondo State, whose collective efforts at advocacy and steadfast belief transformed the long-standing aspiration for a federal teaching hospital in Akure into reality.

“A teaching hospital is expected to provide specialized tertiary healthcare services, train medical and allied health professionals, support academic excellence, conduct high-quality research, and serve as a center for innovation and the advancement of medical knowledge,” he said.

“The hospital must combine outstanding patient care with medical education, research, and community service while operating with sound governance, modern infrastructure, and highly skilled personnel.

“Thus, the focus ought not merely to be on meeting present seemingly pressing needs but on building a lasting legacy that future generations of Nigerians, and indeed our children and grandchildren, will inherit with pride.”
