The management of the Federal University Wukari has announced an immediate and comprehensive ban on all student sign-out activities, marking a significant policy shift aimed at addressing safety and security concerns linked to graduation celebrations on and around the university campus.
The directive was contained in a circular issued by the Academic Affairs Division and signed by the Academic Secretary, Mr. Micah Sylvanus O., on behalf of the Registrar on Thursday.
According to the circular, the decision followed approval by the university’s Senate at its 76th regular meeting held on May 26, 2026. The management said the move became necessary in view of the prevailing circumstances associated with student sign-out celebrations, which have increasingly raised concerns over public safety, orderliness and compliance with university regulations.
The ban covers all activities traditionally associated with sign-out ceremonies. These include signing on T-shirts, dancing, processions within and outside classroom environments, student movements across the campus, and gatherings in the university’s immediate surroundings.
The university also prohibited parties and celebrations around its main gates and along the Katsina-Ala–Jalingo highway, noting that such activities often generate heavy traffic congestion and expose students and other road users to unnecessary risks.
In addition, the institution outlawed the organization or sponsorship of convoys, public processions and the spraying of money during passing-out celebrations. The management warned that no individual student, group or association would be permitted to engage in such activities under any circumstance.
To ensure full compliance, university security personnel have been directed to strictly enforce the directive and promptly report any violations for appropriate disciplinary action.
While reaffirming its commitment to the welfare and safety of students, the university management stressed that adherence to institutional rules and regulations remains essential to maintaining peace, order and a conducive academic environment.
The management urged all students to comply fully with the new directive, which takes immediate effect, warning that any breach of the policy would attract sanctions in line with the university’s regulations.
The decision places the Federal University Wukari among higher institutions in Nigeria that have introduced stricter measures to regulate student celebrations, as universities continue to balance students’ desire to celebrate academic milestones with the need to ensure security, public safety and uninterrupted academic activities.
