Garki hospital remits N200m to FCTA in 10 years

Concessionaire Plans N10b Investment
Following the 2007 concession of Garki General Hospital, Abuja, to Nhsa Premier Hospital, the management said it has remitted N200 million to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

The Vice Chairman, Garki General Hospital, Dr Ibrahim Wada, disclosed this during the presentation of a concession report to the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), yesterday, in Abuja.

Wada disclosed that the hospital has been remitting concession fees of N20 million yearly to the FCTA, in addition to a signature bonus of N25 million and a profit sharing, which till date amounts to N13.3 million.

He said within the space of 10 years, N4.6 billion was invested in modern medical equipment. He disclosed plans to invest an additional N10 billion over the next 30 years to transform the hospital to international standard.

He said: “Over the last 10 years, we have broken new grounds in healthcare delivery in the FCT and Nigeria. We have introduced a fully equipped and functional neurosurgery department, sickle cell clinic, In-vitro fertilisation clinic and high-end surgeries. We have successfully conducted 43 open heart surgeries and 25 kidney transplants.”

The Vice Chairman regretted that the hospital management might not be able to recoup its investment after the lapse of the 15-year concession agreement, calling for a renewal of the contract.

He said: “We most respectfully seek a review of the term of concession agreement beyond the current term which expires in 2022. We would be glad to receive from your good office in this regard, to enable us sustain and improve on the present achievement and keep with the vision of effective healthcare delivery in the FCT.”

The acting Director General, ICRC, Chidi Izuwah, said: “Looking at the monthly and quarterly reports, including an assessment of the hospital by ICRC, it is clear that you don’t change a winning team and without an iota of doubt, we will make a strong recommendation to the presidency and the FCT.”
