German language school compensates influencer with ₦1m after partnership collapse

A German language training institution has paid ₦1 million in compensation to influencer Lizabeth “Seyi Fumi” following the termination of their collaboration over concerns about the quality and coordination of trial classes offered to participants.

In a statement issued on Tuesday under the banner “Vielen Dank und alles Gute,” the school, led by its team leader, Amani, acknowledged Fumi’s contributions and praised her commitment, effort, and enthusiasm in onboarding participants for the trial sessions.

The management commended the influencer for her professionalism and dedication to maintaining the trust of her audience, noting that she represented the brand with genuine care and determination throughout the collaboration.

The school also apologised for what it described as a disappointing experience during the trial classes, explaining that the instructor assigned to the sessions was new and unfamiliar with the online teaching tools and setup.

This, it said, resulted in a poorly coordinated and substandard learning experience that fell short of both its internal standards and the expectations created during the partnership.

According to the statement, the institution accepted full responsibility for the shortcomings, stressing that the lapses were not a reflection of the influencer’s judgment or performance.

“As a gesture of accountability and appreciation for her efforts, time, and the reputational inconvenience caused, we have offered ₦1 million as compensation, with no conditions attached,” the statement said.

The school further wished Fumi success in her career as a polyglot, virtual assistant, and content creator, stating that she deserved opportunities aligned with her professional standards.

Earlier on Tuesday, Fumi announced via her official X (formerly Twitter) account that she had ended her partnership with the school, citing dissatisfaction with the organisation and delivery of the trial classes.

She explained that before agreeing to promote the free trial programme, she had attended the school’s sessions, reviewed its social media presence, and assessed its structure to ensure it met her standards.

According to the influencer, she played a significant role in onboarding participants by managing communications, answering inquiries, sharing access links, and sending reminders to ensure attendance.

However, she said the actual trial classes failed to match the quality and preparedness she had previously observed, leading to a loss of trust and credibility with her audience.

As a result, she withdrew from the collaboration, stating that she could not continue endorsing a programme that did not meet her expectations. She added that her decision was communicated privately to the school and directly to participants who registered through her platform.

While wishing the institution success in future endeavours, Fumi confirmed that she is no longer affiliated with The German Language School in any capacity.
