Glo Premier League: Kwara United beat Rangers 3-1 in Ilorin
Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin on Sunday defeated visiting Rangers International FC of Enugu 3-1 to claim the full points in the 2014/2015 Glo Premier League.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Week 11 encounter was played at the mainbowl of the Kwara Stadium Complex.
The home side opened scoring just two minutes into the match through Dare Ojo, with the lead only lasting about 14 minutes.
An error by the duo of goalkeeper Shagari Ismail and Halilu Obadaki resulted into Rangers equalising through Rasaq Adegbite who slot in a low cross in the 16th minute.
Former Boavista midfielder Olufemi Oladapo restored Kwara United’s lead just before half time, off a pass from Segun Alebiosu.
Kwara United responded well to coach Tunde Abdulrahman’s half time talk as they dominated proceedings thereafter, even though a resilient Rangers back line led by Okey Odita stood firm.
However, United’s new signing Emmanuel Amungwa sealed victory for Kwara United in the 81st minute with his side’s third goal.
Reacting to the match, the Chief Coach of Rangers, Imama Amakpakabo, lamented that the scoreline did not depict the play.
He said it was unfortunate the hosts scored from two errors from his goalkeeper Itodo Akor.
Amakpakabo said his team was undergoing a rebuilding process as he took charge about two weeks ago.
“My style of play is now reflecting on the players, even though I have only been with them for two weeks.
“However, Kwara United didn’t do badly today because they have a good pacy forward line but a weak defence.
“Going forward, they are wonderful so whenever they break they have lots of speed to do it,” Amapakabo said.
Also reacting, the coach of Kwara United, Abdulrahman expressed his delight at the victory and gave God the glory.
He said his boys lost concentration at a point in time, but the break afforded them the opportunity to rebuild.
“We utilised the LMC break to restrategise. We played three friendly games and scored 17 goals,”” Abdulrahman said.
He expressed the hope of building from the team’s success.
