NO fewer than 400 school dropouts have been returned to school by the Gombe state Police Command in its effort to curb criminal activities in the state.

The state Commissioner of Police Mr. Austin Iwar who initiated a programme christened Gombe State back to school disclosed this while briefing reporters yesterday in Gombe.

He added that the command has fully adopted the community partnership approach to policing as a strategy in line with modern policing methods in collaboration with the state government.

“We realized that if security problem like any other problem must be solved, the root causes need to be identified and dealt with and again we realized that our youths form the bulk of offenders. So to solve more than half of security issues, there is every need to tackle youth problem.”

Iwar said that the strategy has yielded very positive result as crime prevention and detection has improved relatively as the command recorded drastic reduction in crime rate for the month of September and October, which stood at 87 cases compared to 246 cases recorded in July and August.
