Gombe House of Assembly Speaker removes community bore

THE Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly Honorable Inuwa Garba has allegedly dismantled a borehole he sank in Garin Bappi, Yamaltu-Deba Local Council of the State after losing his return bid to the Assembly during the last general elections.

Honourable Inuwa, who is the immediate past Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of Nigeria, it was learnt, had reached a deal with the people of the area to vote for him after sinking the borehole.

However, after the election, it was gathered that Honourable Inuwa who stood for the elections on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) only secured 15 votes from the village, as against his rival in the All Progressive Congress (APC) Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq who secured more votes and even won the election for the Yamaltu West State Constituency.

Angered by his failure at the polls, it was gathered that the Speaker ordered the removal of the borehole since the community failed to fulfill their own side of the deal.

A resident of the community who confided in The Guardian disclosed that, ”following the defeat of the Speaker at the poll, he shamefully order irate youths to vandalize the borehole in the community.”

Other neighbouring communities who enjoyed the services of the borehole were said to have called on the member-elect, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Ibrahim to, as a matter of urgency, assist in restoring the borehole since the Speaker was no longer interested in alleviating the sufferings of his people.

All efforts to get the Speaker’s side of the allegation proved futile as several calls to his mobile phone were not reachable as at the time of filing this report.
