GoNigeria has been unveiled to increase youth participation in politics.

Chairman, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, urged youths to be involved in their future by actively participating in the electoral process.

He made the call at the unveiling of GoNigeria, an initiative to increase the participation of youths in the country’s politics.

“Voters don’t count is the big lie politicians sell to those whose votes cannot be bought so that only those whose votes can be bought will come to the polling units”, he noted.

He said Nigerians “are tired, disillusioned and not interested in politics” whereas every government “should be driven by young people because they have the drive, passion and energy to build a sustainable nation.”

He added that a lot of people, especially the youths, don’t understand how the government affects their lives, they opined that registration is cumbersome for the youths, a lot of young people want to participate, but the process is not encouraging.

Ibrahim-Imam’s position is coming as Anap Foundation kick-started GoNigeria, a campaign to sensitise Nigerian youths to participate actively in the electoral process leading to the election of visionary leaders during the general elections come 2023.

Anap Foundation will be partnering with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other advocates, celebrity ambassadors, corporate bodies, as well as volunteers, in ensuring a huge success is attained by encouraging the youths to understand that their votes count in having the right leaders at the country’s helm of affairs.

The campaign is in full gear with the initial advocates of Anap Foundation, who have intensified efforts at encouraging young Nigerians to register and collect their PVCs to vote in next year’s general elections towards ensuring good governance and accessing the true dividends of democracy.

The initial advocates are Aisha Yesufu, an activist; Director, Research and Training, Nurudeen Lemu and many others.
