Google begins digital skills training in Sokoto

Google Nigeria yesterday began digital skills training for Africa programme in Sokoto. The scheme offers training to help individuals and communities develop and grow digital skills, find jobs and advance in their careers.

Google Nigeria yesterday began digital skills training for Africa programme in Sokoto. The scheme offers training to help individuals and communities develop and grow digital skills, find jobs and advance in their careers.

It provides free courses, tools, and in-person digital training to students, educators, job seekers and businesses.Quoting the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the Country Director of Google, Juliet Ehimuan-Chiazor stated that the unemployment rate in Nigeria as at December 2017 was 18.8 percent (16 million people) and underemployment at 21.2 percent.

According to her, “the web is at the heart of economic growth and Google has been supporting African businesses and individuals to succeed online.“In 2016, Google committed to train 1m young Africans on digital skills in one year. In 2017, that commitment was further extended to 10m Africans in five years”.
