Gov Lawal explains Zamfara’s readiness for ranching
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has reaffirmed the state’s readiness to embrace ranching, citing its potential to transform Nigeria’s livestock industry and boost food security.
During a visit to the Ministry of Livestock Development on Thursday, Governor Lawal highlighted Zamfara’s vast agricultural resources and expressed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with the ministry to modernise the sector.
“Zamfara is an agrarian society, and farming is our pride. We have ample spaces and earth dams that can be rehabilitated to support livestock development and ranching initiatives,” Lawal said.
He also extended an invitation to the Livestock Minister, Idi Maiha, to visit Zamfara and assess its capacity to pilot transformative projects.
In his response, Minister Maiha praised Lawal’s engagement, describing Zamfara as a key partner in advancing the ministry’s agenda.

He announced plans to develop the Gidan Jaji area of the state into a mini agricultural hub, positioning Zamfara as a model for modern ranching.
“The livestock sector has long operated informally. We will modernize this sector through various strategic programs.
“Your Excellency, Zamfara State will be the pilot state to showcase the agenda of the new ministry. With this collaboration, we will turn the Gidan jaji in Zamfara into a mini agricultural hub,” he said.
The Livestock Ministry which was established in July 2024, is aimed to reform Nigeria’s livestock industry, encourage investment, and enhance food security in the country.
