The executive Governor of Cross River State, Prince Bassey Otu, has ratified three laws aimed at enhancing social welfare and infrastructure improvement as well as regulating the gaming industry across the state.
In a press statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Nsa Gill, the three newly signed laws include the Cross River State Senior Citizens Centre Law 2025, Cross River State Road Maintenance Agency (Amendment) Law 2025, and the Cross River State Lotteries Gaming Agency Law 2025.
The Governor pointed out that these legislative milestones are in line with his commitment to his “People First” agenda, describing the legislation as timely and strategic, given their alignment with his development priorities.
“These laws are coming at the right time. They ensure continuous road maintenance, structured gaming regulation for revenue generation, and targeted support for our elderly population.” Otu said.
The updated Road Maintenance Law now requires all 18 local governments to allocate 4% of their monthly federal funds for road repairs.
The release states that the Lotteries and Gaming Law establishes a new agency to license and oversee gaming activities in the state. This initiative aims to enhance government revenue and ensure fair practices within the industry.
Additionally, the Senior Citizens Centre Law enables the government to establish centers throughout the state dedicated to supporting older individuals, particularly retired and vulnerable citizens.
