Governor-elect of Kogi State, Ododo Ahmed Usman, has extended his gratitude to the people of the state for entrusting him with the mandate to lead from January 2024.
Usman pledged to uphold transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in his governance.
Usman made the pledge in a statement on Monday, following his declaration as the winner of the Kogi State governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Ododo scored a total of 446,237 votes and is “hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” state returning officer Johnson Urama announced at the INEC collation centre in Lokoja at about 10:24 p.m. on Sunday. Ododo secured victory in 13 out of the 21 local government areas in the state.
In the statement, he said that his administration would embark on a “historic journey to build a united and prosperous community of people with a common destiny.”
“Your trust is a compass guiding us in our commitment to enthroning a transparent, accountable and inclusive governance,” Usman stated.
“As we sail the ship to new frontiers, I am confident that our collective determination will yield positive outcomes for every citizen of our dear state.”
The governor-elect also expressed his appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for creating an atmosphere of peace and a level playing field for all the contestants in the recent governorship election.
He also expressed gratitude to the outgoing governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, describing him as his mentor, leader, benefactor and leadership coach.
Usman noted that Governor Yahaya Bello led the campaigns from the front and his numerous achievements convinced the electorate that our team would not derail from the agenda to make Kogi State the best in Nigeria.
“Thank you, sir and we assure you that we will not disappoint you. As the architects of modern Kogi State, we will continue to tap from your wealth of experience and passion to serve the great people of our state. I also thank all our party stalwarts and leaders who toiled day and night to deliver this collective success,” he added.
He, however, urged the people of Kogi State to continue working hand in hand to achieve the shared aspirations of the state.
“To the citizens of Kogi and our nation at large, your faith in our leadership fuels our passion to serve you diligently. Your support forms the foundation upon which we build a brighter future for all. Let us continue working hand in hand to achieve the shared aspirations we hold for our beloved state,” he appealed.
