Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has pledged to execute no fewer than five development projects across the five local government areas of Oron Federal Constituency in the 2026 fiscal year.
The Governor made the commitment during the Oron Federal Constituency Town Square Meeting and Empowerment Programme held at Oron Township Stadium, where he addressed a large crowd of residents and stakeholders.
While expressing appreciation to the people of the constituency for their support during the 2023 elections, Governor Eno said his administration remains focused on delivering inclusive governance. He listed several ongoing and completed infrastructure projects in the area as evidence of his dedication to fulfilling campaign promises.
“This town square meeting is a strategic platform for us to feel the pulse of the people, present our plans, and receive the Needs Document which will inform the 2026 budget. It will be known as ‘The People’s Budget’,” the Governor stated.
According to him, Oron Federal Constituency occupies a vital place in the socio-economic development of the state, particularly in infrastructure, tourism, and human capital development.
“For the second time in just four weeks, we are gathered again in Oron for this town square meeting. We promised to visit every federal constituency, to share what we have done, and to hear directly from the people. This is a campaign promise being fulfilled.
“We have received your Needs Document just as we did in Abak. We will carefully examine it, local government by local government, and ensure that each is represented in the 2026 budget. We may not implement everything, but I guarantee you that each local government will get at least one project,” he added.
Governor Eno stressed that the document presented by Oron leaders reflects the collective aspirations of the people and would be treated as such. He reiterated his commitment to the ARISE Agenda, noting that the vision transcends political affiliation and aims to deliver sustainable development across the state.
Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, who hails from the constituency, commended the Governor for ensuring that Oron has not been left behind in the state’s developmental agenda. She noted that the area had benefited immensely from meaningful and life-enhancing projects.
Also speaking, Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, lauded the impressive turnout at the event and described it as a sign of the people’s trust in the current administration. He pointed out that Governor Eno’s interventions in Oron had gone beyond infrastructure to include human capacity development and empowerment.
Chairman of Urue Offong Oruko Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Uno Etim Uno, who spoke on behalf of the five council chairmen, described the Governor’s projects in the constituency as transformative and enduring.
Similarly, the federal lawmaker representing Oron Federal Constituency, Rep. Martins Esin, praised Governor Eno for his frequent visits, timely empowerment schemes and the spread of infrastructural development across the area.
In the same vein, the Chairman of the State Traditional Rulers Council and Paramount Ruler of Udung Uko, Odidem Bassey Etim Edet, commended the Governor’s inclusive approach to governance and assured him of the continued support of traditional institutions.
President-General of the Oron Union, Sir Essang Nsa Bassey, also hailed the Governor for his honesty in fulfilling campaign promises, describing his record of performance in the constituency as “unprecedented”.
The high point of the event was the disbursement of N335 million in business grants to small and medium-scale farmers and entrepreneurs drawn from the five local government areas that make up the constituency.
