The Law Graduates Association of Nigeria (LAWGAN) has condemned the attack on Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle, in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing it as a barbaric assault on education, humanity and national security.
This was contained in a statement signed by Kayode Bello who is the President,and Ojo Clement, who is the group’s Public Relations Officer.
In the attack, which occurred in the community, armed bandits reportedly beheaded a teacher, Mr. Michael Oyedokun, while abducting several students, teachers and the school principal.
In a statement issued by its leadership, LAWGAN said the incident represents a “deeply disturbing escalation” in attacks against educational institutions, stressing that schools, meant to be safe spaces for learning, are increasingly becoming targets of violent criminal activity.
The association expressed condolences to the family of the deceased teacher, the management and students of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle, as well as residents of Oriire Local Government Area, urging them to remain resilient in the face of the tragedy.
It called on the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government and security agencies to urgently ensure the immediate and unconditional release of all abducted students and staff still in captivity, while also demanding intensified security operations across affected areas.
LAWGAN further urged authorities to swiftly apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the attack, insisting that sustained assaults on schools pose a grave threat to education, peace and national development.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to the promotion of justice, the rule of law, and the protection of fundamental human rights and dignity across Nigeria.
