Group donates equipment to Onitsha hospital

A group, the Anambra State Women Association of Southern California (ASWASC) has donated hospital equipment worth two million Naira to the general hospital Onitsha, as part of efforts to improve healthcare services in the state.

A group, the Anambra State Women Association of Southern California (ASWASC) has donated hospital equipment worth two million Naira to the general hospital Onitsha, as part of efforts to improve healthcare services in the state.

Presenting the equipment yesterday at a ceremony attended by the state commissioner for health, Dr Joe Akabuike, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr Ebelechukwu Anugwu, the Secretary of ASWASC among other top government officials, Mrs. Chineye Ojukwu said the gesture is to bring the maternity ward to world standard and improve medical services in the hospital.

The equipment includes three stethoscopes, two baby cots, one vacuum extractor, two wheel chairs, one electric suction machine, six sponge holding forceps, six artery forceps (curved and straight), six Kocherís (straight and curved), three kidney dishes, two circumcision scissors and two gallipots among others.

Mrs Ojukwu who represented president of the association, Barr. Amaka Akudinobi pleaded that pregnant and nursing mothers be allowed to enjoy the items, while the hospital management should ensure that the gadgets were put to good use.

She also promised that the association would reach out to other hospitals and maternity homes in the state to ensure that quality is maintained and lives of pregnant women are saved.
