Benue Good Governance Crusaders have opposed alleged moves by Governor Hyacinth Alia to take over the shares of Benue State domiciled in Dangote Cement.

Jointly led by Felix Atetan and Peter Ameh, the Crusaders claimed that the governor had perfected arrangements to sell off the only viable state-owned transport company, Benue Links Limited, to a Lagos-based transport company owner.

Calling on the Benue State Assembly to probe the Governor and some of his officials over the alleged plan to sell the state’s shares in Zenith Bank PLC and other companies of Benue’s interest, the Crusaders accused Alia’s kinsman, Raymond Asemakaha, of assisting him to achieve the goal.

Stating that they are dedicated to defending democracy and promoting transparency, the Crusaders stressed that they have a duty to raise the alarm whenever they observe wrongdoing in the system.

They also demanded that the Benue State House of Assembly summon the Governor to appear before it, along with the Managing Director of BIPC, to answer questions regarding his harassment of Dangote Industries and the sale of government assets under his administration.

They thereby called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to commence an investigation into the sale of Benue State government assets under the Alia administration.
