Group in Izombe commends Chevron

A group in Izombe, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo, has commended Chevron Nigeria Limited, for signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the oil producing community.

Ogochukwu Akopunwanne, Chairman, Jisike Regional Development Foundation, Izombe, gave the recommendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Izombe on Sunday.

Akopunwanne said the signing of the MOU had stepped up development in the area, including Umunwama and Oboebor communities.

He told NAN that the oil company liaised with community-based organisation in carrying out some developmental projects in the area.

Over 60 students from this town are currently enjoying scholarships from Chevron and the company has also executed some electricity and school projects in these communities.

We are pleased to say that since we signed the MOU with Chevron, the company has kept its own side of the agreement.

The foundation has done its best to ensure judicious use of the funds for the projects.

It is through the MOU that we are able to achieve some success in project execution in Izombe,” he said.

He advised other oil bearing communities in the state to endeavour to sign agreements with multinationals operating in their areas on community projects. (NAN)
