A social reformist organisation, RARDUJA International, has called for a sustained advocacy and campaign against cases of human trafficking and other related crimes in Imo State.
The group stated that the high rate of the menace could be curbed if the citizens are adequately sensitized about its ills and consequences to the society.
The call was made during the group’s parley with Mr. Ogbu Ernest, Commander, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Imo State Command, in Owerri, on Thursday.
The group led by its South East Regional Director, Engr Andrew Duru who presented a Roll-Up Banner to Imo NAPTIP, said it would encourage the agency in its advocacy and effort of combating cases of human trafficking in the state.
Duru said, “RARDUJA acknowledges the enormous work the Agency is saddled with, since Imo state is now labelled as a red flag state in the migration space.”
“We therefore call on the government and other concerned agencies to ease the work of the NAPTIP by providing them with the required materials, support and cooperation to achieve the desired results.”
Responding, the Imo NAPTIP Commander, Ogbu appreciated the group for the visit and gesture, describing the roll-up banner as one of the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials that assist the Agency’s prevention Strategies of combating human trafficking in the state.
He also lauded the RARDUJA President and founder, Hon. Eddy Duru for his constant support to the agency in the state and across the country.
Ogbu also used the opportunity to reiterate the commitment of the Agency under Prof. Fatima Waziri-Azi towards curbing human trafficking and its related vices in the country.
