500,000 IDPs to get N17,000 each from world body

As the military engages Boko Haram insurgents in Sambisa forest, a group known as Concerned Professionals’ Congress (CPC) has asked Nigerians to pray and support the soldiers in the ongoing crackdown on the terrorists in the North East region.

The group said that the collective prayers and support of all Nigerians at this critical time will strengthen the troops as well as boost their morale to accomplish the task of restoring the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation particularly in the troubled region.

The group’s Coordinator, Mallam Tukur Musa Tilde and the Chief Media Strategist, Mr. Emeka Nwapa, who jointly addressed journalists after a zonal extraordinary meeting at the weekend in Kaduna, pointed out that: “The operation in Sambisa is similar to United States military’s final onslaught on Al Qaeda at this same time five years ago, which led to the capture of America’s most wanted man after the September 11, 2001 bombing, Osama bin Laden in Pakistan.”

The group also expressed hope that the Chibok girls abducted by the insurgents two years ago would be rescued to join their parents after the operation in Sambisa forest.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Borno State Emergency Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Ahmed Satomi, says no fewer than 500,000 displaced households will get N17,000 from the World Food Programme in 2016.

Satomi, who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Maiduguri, said 35,000 households had so far benefited from this.

The chairman said that the agency planned to reach out to 1.4 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking refuge in other communities.
