Group tasks FG on strengthening coronavirus safety measures
A group, the South East Coronavirus Intervention Network (SCIN) has urged the Federal Government to reinforce measures aimed at containing the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
The advice came as European countries reintroduced measures and announced partial lockdown to arrest the rising COVID-19 cases in their regions.
Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, yesterday, its National Coordinator, Meekam Mgbenwelu, said the advice became necessary to put government and concerned agencies on their toes against the pandemic.
He also admonished Nigerians, especially health workers and those who come in contact with foreigners to adhere strictly to the safety measures to safeguard themselves from the spread of Coronavirus.
Mgbenwelu, who is also the immediate past Imo State Commissioner for Technology Development, said: “Efforts must be made to sustain the previous achievements recorded in curtailing the spread of the virus in the country.
“As efforts are ongoing to contain the spread of the dreaded virus, it is obvious that we are yet to recover from its effects on the economy and social lives.
“So, we are concerned and we warn Nigerians about the imminent second wave of the virus, as well as advice government to intensify efforts towards combating the spread.
“Records show that adherence to precautionary measures of COVID-19 are not that promising and there is the need to stress on that. Our previous experience should be a lesson to all of us and no stone should be left unturned in confronting the scourge.”
