Amb. Tuggar unveils four Ds, assumes duty as Foreign Affairs Minister
The newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, has unveiled a four Ds foreign policy framework for the country.
The Minister who resumed duty Monday at the Ministry Headquarter in Abuja, stated that the new foreign policy would be anchored on Development, Democracy, Demography and Diaspora. These according to him, will focus on bringing modern solutions in addressing complex challenges.
Noting that Foreign Ministry is at the forefront of promoting Nigeria’s interest and protecting citizens abroad, he pledged commitment towards serving the country and Nigerians.
He said: “It is the highest honor to be asked to serve as Minister of Foreign Affairs by his Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. As a historically important Ministry, Foreign Affairs has for long, represented the highest standard of excellence. It is therefore our job to ensure that those standards will never fail.
“These are turbulence times. From the unfolding political crises in Niger Republic to the regional insecurity and economic insecurity, we have a lot of work to do. In due time, we will also be unveiling a new vision for Nigeria’s foreign policy, four D’s diplomacy.
“Through this doctrine centered on development, democracy, demography and diaspora, we hope to find modern solutions in other to address complex modern problems.
“I will be counting on your cooperation and partnership, and by the special grace of God and with your support, I am sure that we can place Nigeria where she belongs – at the pinnacle of visional and global decision making”, the Minister said.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Amb. Adamu Lamuwa, pledged the support of minister staff in implementing Nigeria’s foreign policy.
He said: “We are here to work for you and the government to articulate and implement Nigeria’s Foreign policy. We are happy to have a leader who is not new to the field and who understand everything about diplomacy and foreign policy.
“We should thank Allah and President Bola Tinubu for bringing him to us because we have been praying for a minister who would hit the ground running. We are hereby pledging our determination and support to moving Nigeria’s foreign policy forward”, Lamuwa stated.
Tuggar was received with cheers the management and staff of the ministry. Born on March 12, 1967 to the family of late Senator Abubakar Tuggar of Udubo, Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, the new Minister has reputation of hard work in his past national assignments.
As a Nigerian Ambassador to Germany from 2017, he was said to have initiated the repatriation of stolen Benin artefacts from German government. His commitment led to the repatriation of looted 22 Benin Bronze valued at over 100 million pounds.
In addition to being a seasoned Diplomat, Ambassador Tuggar was a successful business man, a philanthropist and an astute politician, who has served the country in various capacities, including a Member, House of Representatives for Gamawa Federal Constituency between 2007 and 2011.
He was said to have contributed actively to various committees in the House of Representatives, included House Committees on Foreign Affairs, Public Procurement, Petroleum (Upstream); Legislative budgeting; Agriculture; Public Petitions; Labour and Interior.
The Minister holds Bachelor and Master Degrees in International Relations from the University of Cambridge and the United States International University in San Diego, United States of America, respectively. He had his Advanced Level Studies at Saint Bede’s School, East Sussex, England.
Ambassador Tuggar is married and his union is blessed with children.
