Accord Party candidate, Ogunbiyi, promises jobs if elected as governor

Ahead of the Osun State July 16, 2022 governorship election, a group, Osun Masterminds, has urged political parties to imbibe issues-based campaigns as part of efforts to enthrone good governance capable of raising the welfare of the citizens.

The group also urged the populace to brace up and participate effectively in the electoral process by electing credible leaders without recourse to collecting gratification capable of jeopardising the future development of the state.

Executive Director of the group, Dr. Wasiu Oyedokun Alli, in a statement, said the critical situations people are passing through should serve as a guide in the choice of good leaders.

Alli, who decried the recent alleged misconduct and misuse of power by some officers in the state police command, noted that law enforcement officers should be more humane in their relationship with the citizens.

He condemned the sacking of a high court judge in the state, Justice Folahan Oloyede, by the immediate administration, but expressed delight that the current leadership had agreed to comply with a court order of reinstating her back to her job henceforth.

He said: “We must restate the fact that we want to see an Osun State, where politicians will be playing responsible politics that put the people and their development first. We must also state that we want to ensure that we contribute to the enthronement of a new era of developmental governance that does not serve a few pockets and shows total submission to the will of the people.

“We also frown on the destruction of campaign billboards and advertisements of opposition political parties in the state, particularly that of the PDP governorship candidate, which is unhealthy for all-inclusive democratic participation and citizens’ right to choices.

“On a final note, we want to enjoin Osun people to participate fully in the present electoral process and ensure that only men and women who guarantee their well-being are voted into office.”

MEANWHILE, the governorship candidate of Accord Party (AP) in the state, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, has stated that he will create 100,000 jobs within a year of his administration if elected as governor in the state.

Besides, he promised that all outstanding gratuities of pensioners in the state would be settled within six months of his government.

Ogunbiyi, who stated this at the weekend in Ile-Ogbo, the headquarters of Ayedire Local Council of the state, said that as an entrepreneur coming from the corporate world, he had full ideas of how jobs would be created through agriculture, mining, art and culture and sports and entertainment.

The governorship candidate said he would mobilise and partner with local and foreign investors to establish viable companies across the state.

Ogunbiyi, who described the civil servants as major stakeholders in the state with solid ideas and capacities to make things happen, regretted that they had been rendered ineffective and redundant and noted that those at the grassroots would have the opportunity of choosing the local council chairmen and their councillors to help spread development faster to the rural areas.
