In a bid to reduce the high rate of domestic violence in Ikorodu, a non-profit organisation, Community Rights and Health Support Centre, has called on individuals, organizations and government to further raise awareness on domestic violence.

Programme Coordinator of the organisation, Uche Okoro said this during his keynote address at a Talkshop event to sensitise students and members of the National youth Corps (NYSC) on control and prevention of domestic violence in homes.

Addressing the participants, a Senior Lecturer from the Department of public law, University of Lagos. Mrs. Iyabode Ogunniran said there was the need for law enforcement mechanism that is well driven and encouraged conscious police involvement, adding that the courts should also implore more of civil remedies while awareness by the media, religious and communities’ leaders must be strengthened.

The Lagos state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Dolapo Badmus advised members of the public to report domestic violence related cases to the police through its Family Support Divisions spread across its divisions in Lagos State. She pledged that the command through the support of the commissioner of police was ready to help victims seek medical assistance and counseling as well as provide shelter for victims.
