The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, in collaboration with Ibarapa Consultative Forum, yesterday, said that it had submitted a memorandum to the National Assembly for the creation of Ibadan State.

President-General of the Council, Ajeniyi Ajewole, stated this during a media briefing held at the Ibadan House, Oke-Aremo, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. He stressed that the creation of the state was overdue and called on all and sundry to support it.

Meanwhile, the CCII has lauded the Oyo State House of Assembly over the passage of the bill on rotational chairmanship of the Oyo State Council of Obas.

It also thanked Governor Seyi Makinde for allowing the legislative arm to do its job without any undue interference.

HOWEVER, the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Alao, has called for an immediate halt to the Council of Obas and Chiefs Amendment Bill 2025 currently before the Oyo State House of Assembly, describing it as politically biased and lacking due consultation.

In a statement by his Media Consultant, Bisi Oladele, the monarch faulted the House on the bill for not involving traditional rulers or undergoing a public hearing before presentation.

He warned that the proposed amendment, which names the Alaafin of Oyo as permanent chairman, with the Olubadan of Ibadan and Soun of Ogbomoso as co-chairmen, tilts leadership unfairly toward Ibadan.

He described the move as an aberration that could deepen existing regional imbalance, saying: “If passed, it will again reduce indigenes of Oyo, Ogbomoso, Oke-Ogun, and Ibarapa to second-class citizens in their own state.”

Olugbon noted the bill’s failure to reflect fairness and equity and urged the House to consult widely before taking further steps.
