Groups Worried Over State Of Edo Nursing School


The deplorable  state of Edo State Nursing and Midwifery schools, which have lost their accreditation with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, has attracted the interest of women journalists in the state.

Women journalists, under the umbrella of Nigerian Union of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) and various none governmental organisations, called for the upliftment of facilities in the institution so as to regain their accreditations.

At a press conference in Benin City yesterday, chairperson of NAWOJ in the state, Amina Eboh appealed to spirited individuals and organisations to support the school.

“As I speak, not a student could be found in the School of Midwifery because it had since been disaccredited. On its part, the School of Nursing may also cease to exist as its accreditation to train nurses have equally been withdrawn and faced with the threat of suffering the same fate.

The head of  Uyi Osa Orphanage, Pastor Mary Ogunbor, who is an alumnus of the school, said the schools have been reputed to have trained “very competent nurses and midwifes that are working all over the world and it will be unfortunate that they will be left in this state.

Meanwhile, no fewer than three persons were feared dead yesterday in a motor accident along the Benin-Warri road . Many others were seriously injured.
