Guber poll: Don’t deceive Imo electorate over personal gains, Agbaso urges leaders
Political leaders and other critical stakeholders in Imo State have been urged to give priority to the general welfare of the entire citizens over party sentiments and personal gains as November 11th governorship election in the state gradually approaches.
They were also advised to preach peace and uphold the truth that would assist their supporters and followers in making informed decisions while exercising their franchise during the coming poll.
Former deputy governor of the state, Sir Jude Agbaso gave the advice while interacting with newsmen over the affairs of the state, weekend at his country-home in Owerri.
The astute politician and foremost chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the state posited that if the party leaders among other stakeholders in the state would tell people the truth regarding the credibility and capacity of individual candidate in the race, it would be the freest, fairest and most credible exercise in the history of the state.
He said, “First of all, as an elder and political leader in Imo State, I speak the truth. I don’t speak via the prism of being an APC chieftain. I want all the leaders like me in the state to also speak the truth. They must not deceive the people because of what they stand to gain personally as far as the coming election is concerned.
“They must not heat up the polity. The must sue for calmness and peace. They must encourage their supporters and followers to make the right choice in the overall interest and wellbeing of the people. With that, the people will better understand why leaders like me believe that His Excellency, Sen Hope Uzodinma should be reelected.”
He continued, “when you look at Uzodinma’s achievements in roads infrastructure, in the health and education sectors, you will better appreciate the Governor we have now in Imo. Today, both the FMC and Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education are now upgraded to university status and you know what that means for the state, in terms of economic growth and development.
“Also, when you look at his commitment to the welfare of Imo workers via the regular payment of salaries, provision of free transportation for them and other measures to cushion the effects of subsidy removal in the state, you will agree without doubt that Uzodinma deserves a second term.”
Also, giving insight to whom he considered the most credible among all the candidates vying for the governorship seat, Agbaso further said, “when a man has done a good job, don’t say because he is not your party man, you deny that he has done a good job.
“I was part of a government where the Governor cried that acid rain was washing away the roads he has built. But our current govenor has built firm and critical infrastructure and acid rain has no role on them.”
“So don’t say because you are PDP, APGA, Labour Party, ACN or whatever party you belong to, you won’t recognise it and say the truth. That is all I am saying.”
“I am talking for Imo State and not as a party man. And I want my followers and the entire Imo citizens to know the truth and take the right decision while voting in the November 11th election.
“So far, looking at the other candidates, it can be seen that Governor Uzodinma stand heads and shoulders above them in terms track records, credibility and capacity. He has done well with the given opportunity and I strongly believe he deserves another opportunity for continuity and consolidation.” he added.
