GuDee advocates responsible sourcing for food business

GuDee, a Sustainable Food Company has called on stakeholders in the food value chain sector to take seriously issues of responsible sourcing of raw ingredients to ensure food safety and security.

The company in a statement, yesterday, explained that responsibly sourcing is crucial for every food business, saying it helps to ensure the quality of the food and ingredients, promotes transparency, reduces risks, and drives innovation in the supply chain, as well as benefits farmers and communities.

Managing Director of the company, Mr. Chibuikem Osuchukwu, said such a policy has given the company edge, stressing that the company took a special interest in sourcing, re-branding and use of sustainable packaging for food products like Egusi, Ogbono, and Palm Oil, among others.

He noted that the company is passionate about improving the local food market by sourcing directly from local farmers who use subsistence farming to make farming more sustainable, which is in contrast to using tractors and other farm equipment that traditionally run on diesel or fossil fuel, which are harmful to the environment.

Osuchukwu added that the beginning of their efforts to fight climate change through sustainable sourcing, saying: “We take our time to choose our farmers and suppliers worldwide who understand our ethical and transparent sourcing principles by building long-term relationships with the suppliers to protect our planet and its people.”

Also, the food company won the 2023 Ecofriendly Packaging and Sustainable Food Brand (EPSFB) Award.

The company was recognized for its exclusive role in Sustainable Food Product packaging.

According to the organizer of the award, EcoFriendlyPac said, “Sustainability is no longer just a trend, but a vital value that an increasing number of companies like GuDee have embedded into their practices and operations.

Osuchukwu, who was pleased with what the company has achieved, said: “As a result, our suppliers adhere to our stringent requirements for safe working conditions, fair and respectful treatment of workers, and ethical conduct in line with our supplier code,” he said.
