Gunmen attack army check point in Aba
Unknown gunmen, who allegedly set the patrol vehicle ablaze, reportedly attacked an Army Patrol Team Check-Point in the early hours of yesterday along the Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway at Tonimas Junction.
It was gathered that Army Team had stationed at the junction, as has been its practice on the sit-at-home days to forestall break down of law and order by the residents.
Yesterday was one of the sit-at-home days imposed on South East states on days the IPOB Leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was appearing before an Abuja Federal High Court for alleged criminal acts.
According to unconfirmed report, the gunmen opened fire on the patrol team, upon sighting the team. Several calls put across to the State Police Command’s spokesman. Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna for reaction, were not responded to.
But an unidentified military source within the 14 Brigade Army Headquarters, Ohafia, confirmed the incident, adding that there were no human causalities on both sides during the exchange.
Meanwhile, yesterday’s sit-at-home witnessed unique scenario in Umuahia, the Abia State capital. While markets, shops remained shut; there were free and scanty vehicular movements without harassment of residents.
