PDP, Peterside condemn killings, task police on security
Even as Rivers State is still reeling from the weekend murder of Franklyn Nkukuru Obi, All Progressives Congress, APC Ward 4 Chairman, his wife and son in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Council Area, another APC chieftain, Ofinijite Amachree has been killed in Buguma, Asari-Toru Local Government Area of the state.

Residents of Buguma town yesterday witnessed heavy sporadic gun battle between warring groups. During the shooting, which lasted over one hour, Amachree was killed and his body was set ablaze and burnt beyond recognition.

The shooting, which crippled all social and business activities for several hours in the town. Soldiers and armed policemen were swiftly deployed to restore law and order.

Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Mohammad, confirmed the incident, but assured that security agents have been deployed to restore normalcy.
“There was a security breach in Buguma this morning, (yesterday) but security agencies have intervened. What is paramount to us now is restoring normalcy to the area. As I speak security agencies have effectively secured the area and restored order to the town,” he said.

In his reaction, APC governorship candidate in the 2015 elections, Dakuku Peterside condemned the murder of Amachree, who he said was first beaten to a pulp before he was set ablaze.

Peterside described the rising cases of killings as frightening and unprecedented. According to him, the pathetic security situation in the state is unfortunately a direct affront on the Federal Government’s power to protect lives and property.

“The security situation in our dear state is distressing and we cannot continue to live under such a desperate situation. I am therefore using this opportunity to again draw the attention of the world to daily killings taking place in Rivers State.
“Last Friday, Mr. Franklin, APC Ward 4 Chairman in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area was killed and beheaded with his wife in Omoku. Franklin who recently moderated APC ward meeting in the LGA hails from the same ward as the state Chairman of the PDP, Felix Obuah.

However, PDP chairman, Felix Obuah, urged politicians to join hands with Governor Nyesom Wike to keep the state peaceful and secure from the hands of criminals, rather than trading blames and politicking with insecurity of any kind in the state.

He expressed shock and sadness by the reckless killings of Franklyn Nkukuru Obi, APC Ward 4 chairman, his wife and son.
Obuah also condemned the killings of one Isaac Ikechukwu Chinedu, PDP Chairman in Obite, Chinedu Saidey and Ward 9 PDP Assistant Secretary from Oboburu Community over the weekend.
