
• Police rescue 19 kidnapped victims in Niger
People of Daika Community inPanyam District of Mangu Local Council of Plateau State were on Sunday thrown into mourning and confusion, as gunmen killed a 30-year-old man.
A resident, Christopher Luka, confirmed that the deceased, Fwangshak Lesun, was returning from Mangu before being confronted, shot and killed instantly around 8.30 pm.
The incident reportedly took place close to the Mangu-Daika bridge, with the departed buried yesterday morning amid wailings at Daika, according to Luka.ALSO yesterday, at around 6:05 am in a remote yet-to-be-named settlement after Toro council area of Bauchi State, one Mohammed Toro, aged 78, was hacked to death.
He was said to be coming for morning prayers when three men halted and killed him.
The Guardian learnt that the gunmen knew the deceased well, tracing him from Toro local council down to the point of his death. Ismaila Kudu said they had buried the deceased in the bush without any trace of the bandits.
EQUALLY, hoodlums have killed lawmaker Yusuf Adamu Gagdi’s mother–in–law and brother–in–law in Plateau State. Gagdi is a current member of the House of Representatives representing the Pankshin, Kanam, and Kanke constituencies in the National Assembly.
Those killed by the unknown gunmen are Gagdi’s mother–in–law, Mrs Mary Jonathan and her son, Mark Jonathan. The legislator confirmed the unfortunate incident to journalists yesterday.
The deceased were murdered at Hwollaza in Zaria Road, Jos, and were buried in Jos, at the weekend. Gagdi described the murder as a violent and senseless act.
IN a similar vein, the Niger State Police Command has confirmed rescuing 19 kidnapped victims who were in transit from Sokoto to Bayelsa State along the Tegina-Zungeru road in the Rafi council area of the state.
A statement in Minna by the spokesperson for the command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said immediately after a distress message was received last Friday, the joint security tactical team mobilised and trailed the kidnappers, leaving 12 victims being abandoned by the hoodlums.
The next day, the rescue operation was intensified, resulting in the rescue of the remaining seven victims, he added. The force explained that the victims were taken to a nearby clinic for medical attention before their release to return to Sokoto State on Sunday.
